Ladakh

Ladakh was a small Independent Kingdom in the Himalayan region before the India Independence and its dynasties descending from the Kings of ancient Tibet. It has two provinces Leh and Kargil. It is a mountainous area situated in the north of India and lying at the altitude between 3000mts to 6000mts above sea level. These colorful mountains are ornaments with most pleasing and beautiful monasteries, temples Castles, ancient stupa and long Mani walls built by the ancestral Kings.

The majority of population of Ladakh is farmers. And by nature people are peace-lovingand very often engaged in to open air parties accompanied by dance and songs with music of Surna and Daman (Oboe and drum). Chang, the local barley beer flows freely.

All the Ceremonial and public events are accompanied by the characteristice music of Surna and Daman, originally introduced into Ladakh from Baltistan, but now played only by Ladakh musician known as Mons. As for the costumes of Ladakh, men and women have different traditionally rich clothes, ornaments and jewelleries.

Leh is the capital of Ladakh and all the tourist activities, like sightseeing, trekking and different package tours take place here at Leh. All the ancient, famous and interesting Buddhist monasteries, famous Indus, beautiful landscape, popular Pangong lake, Tsomoriri and Tsokar lakes, Aryan Valley, double hump Camel and World ‘s Highest motorable road are the most interesting sightseeing place at Leh.

Phyang Tsechu and Yuru Kabgyat are other mask dance festival during the summer.
